Tips to prepare for an MBA interview
Introduction: After completing your MBA (Masters in Business Administration) degree, you will definitely start looking for a job. You must have started preparation accordingly. There are coaching classes online or offline, various interview book etc. available which can help you for better preparation. Apart from bookish knowledge there are some other tips discussed below, which are also need to be kept in mind –
While appearing for the interview the candidate may have to face two or three primary rounds, as discussed here –
Round 1 –
General preparation: -
· Mastering the basics of questions e.g. - “Introduce yourself”, “Why you have chosen MBA?”, or “Why applied for this school?”
· Learn to handle tricky questions designed by the interviewer.
· Prepare a mock interview questionnaire by taking tips from any interview books, then practice is repeatedly until you are feeling confident from within.
· You can keep a recording of each mock interview session, repeatedly listen to it for better preparation.
Round 2 –
Communication skill: -
· Communication is one of the major criteria to get selected for MBA profile.
· The interviewer eagerly wants to see your humbleness, authenticity – that should reflect in your personality.
· Find out your strengths and weaknesses at the same time.
· Mastering the skill of staying positive and confident specially amidst high-pressure situations
· Learn how to carry out your best, most confident, and authentic self
Round 3 –
School specific oriented interview: -
· You might be facing a group interview. So be prepared and confident while speaking in front of so many different people. You will get small tips from interview books, about how to prepare for group or panel interviews.
· Gather in depth knowledge about your own background as in your academic subject, your geographical location and it’s in and out potentiality, be updated with current affairs, know the socio economic conditions of your region etc.
· Do not possess a pretending attitude, if you have any past job experience, or any field work experience then share that in details at the interview table.
Other tips are like – Be punctual on the day of interview, get dressed properly, maintain a positive body language, keep eye-to-eye contact either for panel discussion or during group interviews. Always wind up with a thank you note, which throws an optimistic impact to the interviewer.
